Sausage Rolls

I always wanted to learn how to make puff pastry and it was a dream come true when our professor/chef taught us how to make one on the second week of classes. But as much as I want to make my own puff pastry it would be very difficult for me to do for the following reasons:

1.) our kitchen is not air-conditioned, temperature is very crucial in making puff pastry. the butter used will easily melt especially with the weather we have here in the Philippines.

2.) I don't have a huge refrigerator to fit in the dough while resting. and

3.) It needs a lot of time to make one and I don't have much time nowadays because of school and taking care of my daughter (perks of not having a yaya)

So the easiest way for me to create a nice dish that calls for a puff pasty is to buy frozen version of it.
Here in the Philippines finding frozen puff pastry would be quite a difficult task to do, its not a usual item to be found on the supermarkets and I'm surprised when I saw one in Puregold Jr. in BF Paranaque.

I can't remember the name of this product but it's actually nice and very easy to use. I've bought this many times and just use it for very easy recipes such as rolling the puff pastry in hotdogs, making cheese puffs or even brushing butter and topping it with sugar then baking it until it puffs. Not the usual snacks you can have but is very easy to do.

This time I wanted to challenge myself a little and make a nice filling for my puff pastry.

Here's what I did:

SAUSAGE ROLLS

250g ground beef
     5 garlic cloves, minced
1 small can of button mushrooms diced
     1 small onion, minced
     1/2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
     1/2 tsp dried thyme
salt and pepper to taste
1egg for egg wash

METHOD:

1. pre-heat oven to 180 degrees
2. thaw and roll the puff pastry into desired thickness
3. mix all ingredients and season to your liking
4. cut the rolled puff pastry to desired sizes
5. add the filling and roll to the right shape
6. once sealed, run knife through to let steam out
7. brush with egg wash
8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown

ENJOY YOUR MEAL
